Head to Pressure Converter

Head/Pressure Conversion

Summary

Pressure can be measured either as part of a scale (e.g. bar, pascals, psi) or in terms of the height of a fluid (e.g. metres of water). The higher the height of liquid, the greater the pressure it exerts at it’s base.

Pressure gauges typically incorporate scaled measurements whereas pump performance is measured by its head – ie what height it can pump a fluid to.

It is therefore useful to be able to convert between the two measurements.

Convert Head to Pressure

Convert head in metres to pressure in bar:

Formula: p = 0.0981 * h * SG
p = pressure (bar)
h = head (m)
SG = specific gravity
Head
S.G.:
Result: bar

Convert head in feet to pressure in psi:

Formula: p = 0.434 * h * SG
p = pressure (psi)
h = head (ft)
SG = specific gravity
Head
S.G.:
Result: psi

Convert Pressure to Head

Convert head in metres to pressure in bar:

Formula: CodeCogsEqn
CodeCogsEqn (1)
p = pressure (bar)
h = head (m)
SG = specific gravity
Pressure
S.G.:
Result: m

Convert head in feet to pressure in psi:

Formula: CodeCogsEqn (2)
p = pressure (psi)
h = head (ft)
SG = specific gravity
Pressure
S.G.:
Result: ft
